Grow Your Own Grapes!

Grapes can make an excellent addition to your garden. In addition to producing fresh fruit, grape vines can be grown up along an arbour to provide shade for your patio. Grapes can also be grown up along a trellis to provide privacy from your neighbours. You can even use the leaves to make delicious Dolmades.

Grape vines can be considered an investment plant, as once they are established, grapes can provide an abundance of fresh fruit for decades to come.

Types of Grapes

There are two basic types of grapes: wine grapes or table grapes.

Wine grapes are smaller that table grapes. Wine grapes have thick skin, lots of juice and numerous seeds per grape. Table grapes are larger and more eye-catching, with thinner skin, less juice and less acidity.

Wine Grapes

  • Foch
  • Merlot
  • Pinot Noir
  • Reisling Type (GM318)
  • Sauvingnon Blanc

Table Grapes

  • Concord
  • Niagara
  • Valiant
  • Vanessa
